Did you know that with two ingredients you can make the easiest sparkling water bread? It comes together in no time, and you can even add a few extra ingredients for taste to this recipe. There is very minimal effort required, and the outcome is fluffy, fresh bread you can enjoy with anything. My personal favourite is salted butter, but you can even have this with some peanut butter and fresh jelly for breakfast.

Ingredients to make this two ingredient sparkling water bread
- Sparkling Water. If you don’t have any unflavoured sparkling water, no worries! Indigo Soda is the perfect solution. You can make your own sparkling water at home, at a fraction of the cost for canned sparkling water. The sparkling water machine comes with a CO2 cylinder that can produce up to 60 litres of sparkling water. Which will give you weeks of bubbly water! Once the cylinder is empty, you can exchange it at one of many drop off points and get a new cylinder. And if you do the math, for about $0.20 per liter, you get carbonated water that is 90% cheaper than cans!
- Self-Raising Flour. This ingredient is crucial, as we are not using yeast in this recipe. The self-raising flour already has baking powder and salt to it, so it will help the bread to rise when it reacts with the carbon dioxide in the sparkling water.
- Extra Ingredients: I like to add just a pinch of salt, and a bit of olive oil. I find it adds a nice flavour to the bread, but you can definitely omit this.

Tips on making the perfect sparkling water bread
- The dough should be sticky. When you mix the sparkling water and self-raising flour, it’s normal it will be slightly more sticky and wet. As long as you are still able to shape it into a loose ball, that’s okay! It is not a typical bread recipe, so this is normal.
- Let the dough rise for a minimum of 4 hours. I would recommend 4 to 8 hours of rising time. It helps to make the bread fluffier when you bake it.
- Cook the bread in a dutch oven. If you have one, I highly recommend this. You will get a super crispy crust, and extra soft interior. Just make sure to preheat your dutch oven before placing the bread inside to bake.

How to store this sparkling water bread
Place in a bag, removing all the air and store in the fridge for up to 5 days. If it gets hard/crunchy, pop it in the microwave to soften, then in the toaster or oven if you want it to get crispy.

Two Ingredient Sparkling Water Bread
Ingredients
- 4 cups self raising flour
- 1 1/2 cups sparkling water (using Indigo Soda machine)
- 1 pinch salt
- 1/2 tsp olive oil
Instructions
- To a bowl, combine all your ingredients and gently mix together until a sticky dough forms. Make sure it can loosely form into a ball.
- Cover your dough and place in a warm area to rest for a minimum of 4 hours, or until the dough doubles in size (up to 8 hours).
- Preheat your oven to 450℉. Place your dutch oven with the lid on so it preheats at the same time.
- Gently fold your dough and add a bit more self raising flour to form a ball.
- Place bread on a parchment paper then place inside your dutch oven. Close the lid and bake for 35 minutes, covered.
- Take your bread out of the oven, uncover the dutch oven and bake for another 15 minutes, or until the top of the bread is golden and crispy.
- Let cool for 10-15 minutes, cut into slices and enjoy!
