Ingredients needed to make these easy vegan cinnamon sugar donuts
- Vegan Butter. Make sure you melt the butter. You can use any brand you’d like, I like using Becel Plant-Based Sticks.
- Brown Sugar. Make sure this is packed in your measuring cup before pouring into your bowl!
- White Granulated Sugar. This will be added with the brown sugar and melted butter, then mixed with a hand mixer so it becomes a smooth batter.
- Applesauce. For some extra sweetness!
- Almond Milk. Or any plant milk of your choice.
- Vanilla Extract. For an added splash of flavour.
- Cinnamon. Because everything is better with cinnamon.
- All-Purpose Flour. Two cups of flour will give this donut batter the perfect consistency.
- Baking Powder. To make these healthy vegan donuts extra fluffy!
- More Vegan Butter. This will be for dipping your donuts before coating them in the dreamy cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Cinnamon + White Granulated Sugar. This will make the most delicious, sweet coating for these donuts.
Tips on making the perfect vegan cinnamon sugar donuts
- Cream butter and sugars together first. This allows the donuts to become more fluffy and airy when they are baked.
- Add baking powder after adding your flour. I like adding the baking powder at the end, right before I’m about to pour them into my donut trays. I find this makes the donuts extra fluffy when they bake!
- Use a piping bag to pour the donut batter into the trays. If you don’t have a piping bag, you can also take a plastic bag and cut the edge of one of the corners (make sure you cut a large enough piece!) I find this helps to ensure the batter is perfectly distributed in the tray and there is no mess!
How to store these cinnamon sugar donuts
Place the donuts in an airtight container and keep in the fridge for up to one week. You can also store these donuts in the freezer for up to one month.

Easy Vegan Cinnamon Sugar Donuts
These vegan cinnamon sugar donuts are so easy to make, so fluffy, and taste better than any store-bought donut! Plus, they're baked and not fried. These cinnamon sugar donuts are made with simple ingredients that you have in your kitchen like brown and white sugar, applesauce, vegan butter, almond milk, and more. They take about 35 minutes to come together and will be sure to please anyone who takes a bite out of these donuts!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup vegan butter, melted
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup white granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup applesauce
- 1/2 cup almond milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (spoon and level method)
- 1 tsp baking powder
Cinnamon Sugar Coating
- 2/3 cup vegan butter, melted
- 3/4 cup + 3 tbsp white granulated sugar
- 1/2 tbsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350℉.
- Take your donut tray, and brush/spray it with oil. Set aside. (You can use olive oil or coconut oil).
- In a medium sized bowl, add melted vegan butter, packed brown sugar and white granulated sugar together and mix with a hand mixer (you can also use a whisk) until well combined.
- Next, add applesauce, almond milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon to your bowl and mix with a hand mixer until all ingredients are combined.
- Add your flour and baking powder and continue to mix with hand mixer until no flour remains.
- Use a piping bag or plastic bag (make sure to cut one of the corners to use as piping bag if using plastic bag) and scoop your batter into the bag. Pipe the batter into each donut mold and fill 3/4 of it. You want to leave some room for them to become fluffy when they bake. Repeat for remaining batter. Place in the oven and let cook for 15 minutes.
Preparing your cinnamon sugar coating
- While your donuts are baking, prepare the cinnamon sugar coating. In one bowl, melt your vegan butter and set aside.
- In a second bowl, mix together the cinnamon and white granulated sugar together.
- Once your donuts have baked, let them cool for about 10 minutes on a wire rack.
- Take your donut, dip both sides in the melted butter, then dip donut in the cinnamon sugar mixture and coat evenly. Place back on wire rack and repeat for the other donuts.
- Enjoy!
